La Cidrerie |
Dieppe Golf Club 18 holes, par 70 set in 100 acres on a beautiful cliff top. A special welcome awaits British visitors. |
Visit the beach, play tennis or golf or savour the sights, sounds and smells of a bustling fishing port. Visit some of several historic chateaux and beautiful gardens. Or just sit outside and soak up the atmosphere. When you're ready to sample the specialities of the region, the country restaurants are superb and a real treat for "foodies". |
Claude Monet's garden at Giverny, then a stroll and lunch in the cobbled streets of Rouen, cathedral city, capital of Normandy, where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. |
The Manoir in late evening. |
In the grounds of a manor house this 17th-century cider barn has been converted into a modern, well equipped, holiday home. The private tennis court is shared with the owner of the Henri IV Manor. Paris (2 hrs), the Channel Tunnel (2 hrs) Dieppe (50 minutes), beaches (30 minutes). |
There are many restaurants to suit all pockets. The specialities of the region are based upon cider, apples, cream and Calvados served in the most delicious combinations. Calvados is often offered in the middle of a meal with a small ball of apple sorbet known as a "trou Normand" . This is supposed to make room for you to eat more food! Fruit tarte made with crunchy apples, ground almond and butter, are also flambees with calvados. Cheeses such as Camembert and the Pont l'Eveque are the more famous cheeses of Normandy, but the Neufchatel and Pave d' Auge are both mouthwatering local specialities. |

The Parc des Moutiers, a splendid garden occupying a whole valley tumbling towards the sea, with a house built by the architect Edwin Lutyens. For a swim, the Pourville beach is just further along the coast. |
The Normandy Landings can be reached in 1hr 40 on easy motorways and, if you want to brush up your knowledge of the Norman Conquest, the celebrated Bayeaux Tapestries are just beyond. A meal at the Lion d'Or in Bayeaux will linger in the memory. |
